The Federal army's Chief Engineer, Brig. Gen. Gouverneur Kemble Warren, arrived to do recon on Little Round Top
as the Confederate advance began. He found it undefended, and rushed to find some troops to move there.
He found Col. Strong Vincent's brigade of soldiers from Pennsylvania, Michigan, New York, and Maine.
